Faces.

The children of Haiti are amazing. This was a local child around the weekly market. He was one of the first kids we saw when we arrived. What is amazing about Haitians is they release their face and let you read into their eyes without hesitation. In America, we smile and put on a facade, no matter the situation.

As an outsider in Haiti, each piece of the country is foreign and intriguing: from the shoeless orphan, to the grown man working construction. Each Haitian’s look seeps into your soul, with their story going straight through their eyes.  They don’t necessarily smile for pictures; they give you their real face. The judgment and portrayal we put into our pictures makes us all seem perfect and happy, and not real. Something I learned as an observer from the outside of Haiti is how fake so many things in my country are, like the facades of our faces. They gave me their real expression of the moment, and each moment is so uniquely beautiful when compared to the mundane activities of my world.

The precious face of Emily Vines. The simplicity and contentness of smirks.

The Color Red.

Calvin.

I like how his face is almost going towards you in the image. Pretty cool.

Nice oranges.

I took this in Haiti 2012 while the bus was stopped in traffic at the local market. This young boy had cataracts, and the hard life that you know he has is broadcasted through his facial expression and eyes.

Its really hard to win out the joy of a baby's face.

I love the colors here, from the blue to the lime outline and peachy face. Cool cool Sam Fortson.

Sepia portrait of my favorite art teacher of all time, in mid sentence.

One of the most orange, gorgeous eyes I have ever seen in my life.

Kyle Hunkler with girl's sunglasses on. I like this because you don't see myself in the reflection, but two other people instead. Also the colored lenses add a nice touch.

Little Haitian orphan, TouTou, balancing small objects on a plate with her head.

 Josh Barkey, fantastic art teacher.

Carly Madison Underwood, beautiful expression here.

The Carnival in Haiti. This man pointed a dagger at my face for trying to take a picture of him, and I immediately put it down. 5 minutes later he asked me to take one, and I took this.

The most beautiful, precious little boy. His expression is showing so much here. His hungry life is incredibly lonely & hard, and he is trying to 'smile for the camera' like he sees all the rest of us doing, but hardly can.

Louna. I love her face, it was like this even in person. All her emotions are evident, and you can always see the pain she goes through. This little girl is so special, especially to me.

Entoine's beautiful face.

"What is wrong with everything."

Beautiful Brianna Osbourn. Love the orange and peachy colors here.

Colors. I like it.

Calvin! Handsome young boy in very light B/W. Love my cousin. ♥ ♥ ♥ Happy child.

Caution.

Most beautiful pixie there is. Her round, insightful eyes are fantastic.

I find this centered. To the point. Sharp. Hippy.

My sister, Sadie. Such a unique soul.

The perfect face.

Marine.

Reflection.

Details and gazes.

Take what you want from it.

Classic looking.

Mystical.

I like the composition of the glasses. Its almost like you can read the emotion through them, as well.

I like this in sepia. And her eyes.

Boldness of non-colors.

I find this perspective interesting.
